NATURE OF OFFICE
Notaries shall have the power to administer oaths and
affirmations, certify copies and take depositions, affidavits, verifications,
upon oath or affirmation and acknowledgments according to law, in all
matters belonging or incident to the exercise of their notarial office.
A Notary Public is a state officer just as a judge of the Supreme Court
or Court of Common Pleas is a state officer. A notary’s jurisdiction
is co-extensive with the boundaries of the Commonwealth. Notaries have
the authority to notarize documents anywhere within the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania notaries are prohibited from notarizing
documents outside of the state.
