Effective August 15, 2022, notary applicants will be able to take the Pennsylvania notary exam online for their first attempt. This program is called OnVUE and is offered by Pearson VUE: OnVUE online proctoring Subsequent exam attempts must be made at an approved testing center location through Pearson VUE.
The Pennsylvania notary public exam is required for all new applicants and applicants with expired commissions. Prior to taking the exam, the applicant must have taken an online education course and submitted a notary application. Once the application is approved, the applicant will receive an email titled "AUTHORIZATION TO TEST" with instructions on scheduling the examination. The exam must be scheduled online through Pearson VUE. The first attempt may be scheduled and taken entirely online through OnVUE. Please study sufficiently for the exam to ensure you pass on the first try. For applicants that fail and must retake the exam, they can schedule online and then go to an approved Pearson VUE testing center to take the exam again.
